The Mexican Cultural Institute in New Orleans, the Isidore Newman School, and the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation are pleased to present the exhibition IMPRESSIONS by NEW PERSPECTIVES Works by Newman students inspired by Latin-American Art Opening Reception May 17, 2018 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mexican Cultural Institute in New Orleans 901 Convention Center Blvd., Suite 118 (entrance to the Institute is through Andrew Higgins Street)

The Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans and the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation were pleased to organized the Inauguration Ceremony of the Mexican Cultural Institute in New Orleans, on April 21, 2018.  The ceremony was presided over by his Excellency the Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, Gerónimo Gutiérrez Fernández, Carlos Ponce, Consul of Mexico, Ileana Suquet, President of the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation, highlighting the current exhibition “Decoding the Purity of an Icon” by Mexican-American artist Belinda Flores-Shinshillas.  The exhibit marks the opening program for the Mexican Cultural Institute. http://www.nola.com/nolamundo/2018/04/mexican_cultural_institute_ope.html

The Mexican Cultural Institute is pleased to present the  JALISCO MARIACHI  in the Arts District New Orleans' Jammin' on Julia May 5, 2018 6:00 to 11:00 pm

Mexican artists María José de la Macorra and Eric Peréz will give a gallery talk to discuss the current exhibition “Clay in Transit: Contemporary Mexican Ceramics” (which features works by María José de la Macorra) and the focus and process of their work. In conjunction with the Tricentennial celebration of New Orleans,  Salazar: Portraits of Influence in Spanish New Orleans    will tell the story of Jose Francisco Xavier de Salazar y Mendoza (c. 1750-1802) a native of Merida, Yucatan, whose career spanned most of the Spanish administration of New Orleans. Through a re-examination of about 30 of his most pertinent works, a view of Spanish colonial New Orleans will be achieved. His oeuvre will be further contextualized in relation to works and other historical artifacts reflective of the city as a site of mobility and transatlantic artistic exchange. The Mexican Cultural Institute in New Orleans is pleased to be a  collaborator in this exhibition.

Decoding the Purity of an Icon Paintings and Installations by Mexican-American artist Belinda Flores-Shinshillas in collaboration with the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the Arts Council of New Orleans and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies.  March 22 - May 14, 2018  OPENING RECEPTION March 22 @ 6:00pm Mexican Cultural Institute The Webster's dictionary defines purity as "being free from or unmixed with any other matter". Decoding the Purity of an Icon is a series of 10 oil female portrait paintings on canvas and 2 installations thought by Flores-Shinshillas to convey the message of recording an individual's appearance and personality, using the tradition of Iconography for veneration of purity and spirituality beyond the representation of the feminine subject. These works of Art have been approached in a contemporary manner, making these portraits much more than pure representation. The exhibition is free and open to the public. ...
